Engaging the Patient Community

Patients have the biggest stake in the development of new cell therapies or cures for disease. They also have valuable insights to share on the clinical trials, risks, and which health improvements are most beneficial for day-to-day living.

In early 2017, OIRM formed a Patient Advisory Committee, chaired by advocate and stem cell transplant recipient Tina Ceroni, to provide a forum through which patients could share their knowledge and experiences and can interact directly with the researchers who are developing new curative therapies. Through workshops and forums that include patients, researchers and health charities, OIRM is fostering greater collaboration that will have meaningful impacts in the cell therapies developed today and in the near future.
