Profile: Senior Scientist, Regenerative Medicine Program, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute

Department: Pediatrics, University of Ottawa

Research Interests:

Our lab is focused on understanding the mechanisms of lung development, injury and repair in order to develop new treatments for incurable lung diseases. We have an ambitious research program with the ability to study clinically relevant research questions from molecule to man. All animal models of human lung disease are available in our lab and we correlate structural changes with function to assess the clinical pertinence of the experimental therapies tested in our lab. Over the past 6 years, our major research contributions included (i) the discovery of the role of angiogenesis for normal lung development and repair, (ii) the demonstration of the therapeutic potential of stem cells in experimental bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), asthma, COPD and pulmonary hypertension. Over the next 5 years, the major goal will be to translate cell-based therapies into the clinic.
