Since its inception in 2014, OIRM has worked extensively to build relationships and engage in conversations about stem cells with health charities, patients, student groups and the general public. Our efforts have included:
- Hosting Health Charities forums and patient-oriented focus groups to seek the input and perspectives from front-line staff, caregivers and patients. These events help guide OIRM’s partnership and communications activities and are a critically important source of information to guide future research.
- A multi-faceted approach to public engagement that includes organizing open events for the public in major Ontario centres, hosting a blog that profiles Ontario-based achievements and advances in stem cell research, and an active social media presence with campaigns directed towards increased stem cell awareness.
- Support of StemCellTalks, a national stem cell biology outreach initiative that opens dialogues for knowledge sharing between academia and high school students on the science and practical ethics of stem cells.
