The Ontario Institute for Regenerative Medicine (OIRM) is a non-profit stem cell institute dedicated to transforming discoveries into clinical trials and cures. Through our commitment to collaboration and partnerships, we leverage our resources to fund and support promising advances. OIRM is a passionate champion for investigators and their patients as we build a healthier future for Ontario, Canada, and the world.
OIRM was established on November 25, 2014, by Ontario’s Honourable Reza Moridi, Minster of Research, Innovation and Science. OIRM is currently funded through the Ministry with $25M in support over five years (2015-2020). By leveraging the many advantages in Ontario, such as world-class science and clinical infrastructure, a supportive regulatory environment, and facilities across the province that support manufacturing, commercialization and the launch of spin-offs, OIRM augments its government funding to deliver on its promise of better health and prosperity for Ontarians.
The vision of OIRM is to transform the treatment of incurable diseases, making Ontario a global leader in the development and dissemination of stem cell-based products and therapies.
OIRM will realize its vision by executing on four key strategies:
- Lead the translation of stem cell and regenerative medicine into improved health and economic growth
- Enhance scientific and translational excellence through collaboration and partnership
- Accelerate pre-clinical research into early phase clinical trials by funding and supporting promising science
- Debunk the hype by engaging with the public in conversation about stem cells
