Research Interests:

David J Hill, D.Phil is Scientific Director of the Lawson Health Research Institute, London and a Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Physiology and Pharmacology, and Paediatrics, University of Western Ontario. His research is focused on defects in tissue plasticity and regeneration of the endocrine pancreas predisposing to diabetes, and possible reversal strategies. Present studies involve in vitro models of beta cell de-differentiation and re-differentiation using genetically-tagged cells, and the mechanisms whereby hematopoietic-derived stem cells activate beta cell progenitors to enhance beta cell mass. He is also involved in studies of how an impaired intrauterine environment can alter progenitor cell phenotype and plasticity in the offspring, and the linkages to adult diseases.
