Yu Sun’s group in the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Engineering at UofT develops micro-nano devices and automated instruments to perform cell manipulation and characterization. Example instruments are robotic microinjection systems, automated gap junction measurement system, cell mechanical measurement tools, microfluidic devices for measuring the mechanical and electrical properties of cells, devices for mechanical stimulation of cell culture, microfluidic devices for measuring cardiomyocyte properties, and devices for delivering CRISPR components into cells. Their interest is to develop new technologies (1) for gathering data to decipher new mechanisms and make new discoveries of stem cells and (2) for solving practical regenerative medicine problems, which cannot be achieved with conventional technologies.
