Profile and Department: Associate Professor, Pharmacy, University of Toronto

Research Interests:

My research is focused on the study of nuclear hormone receptors and span all areas of nuclear receptor biology including the identification of new ligands; the study of signaling pathways upstream and downstream of receptor activation; the characterization of novel co-regulatory proteins; and the influence of nuclear receptor modulation on whole animal physiology. My studies primarily investigate the importance of these nuclear receptor signaling pathways in the context of diabetes and dyslipidemia and their associated complications.  My interest in regenerative medicine is related to ongoing studies looking at the beneficial role of endothelial progenitor cells in the treatment of atherosclerosis and vascular complications of diabetes.
