Profile and Department: Assistant Professor, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University
Dr Getgood is an Assistant Professor at Western and a sports orthopaedic surgeon and clinician scientist based at the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic. His clinical practice revolves around complex knee reconstruction with a primary research focus on joint preservation.
Since moving to Canada from the UK in 2012, Dr Getgood has been collaborating with members of the Bone and Joint Institute at Western to establish a preclinical research program focusing on joint preservation techniques including tissue engineering approaches to articular cartilage and meniscus regeneration, and the early diagnosis and treatment of post traumatic osteoarthritis. A significant aspect of this work is related to the design of preclinical models of joint injury and degeneration, to allow translation of new technology into clinical practice. His clinical research includes outcomes in articular cartilage repair and trials involved in improving outcome following ligament injury and reconstruction.
Dr Getgood is a past general board member of the International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS) and current Committee member of the International Society for Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS). He is also an active member of the international ACL study group and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM).
