Dr. Hurtig’s work focuses on osteoarthritis (OA) and musculoskeletal disease using animal models as well as investigation of naturally occurring disease in animals such as dogs and horses. His collaborations with hospital centers and universities have included human clinical studies that investigated factors driving knee OA progression and refinement of surgical management of chondral defects. Other interests include cartilage and bone repair using biomaterials, tissue engineering and cellular therapies. Sustained release drug and biologic formulations, and their interaction with cellular therapies are an ongoing interest.
